  • ELITA DID IT!

    HOLA!

    Hi everybody,

Elita retook the Calculus class this summer and took a class in Black Media  that she said was very good and had a lot of kids from different countries that took it too.  She took it for credit hours to boost her GPA and she called us Friday while we were at Carriage Hill to tell us she got an A in the class but even better yet,

SHE GOT AN A!!!! IN CALCULUS!!  THANK YOU JESUS!!

This class earlier in the year had her calling home in tears and she dropped out with 4 weeks left to go because she didn't want to risk getting an F.  GOD BLESS THIS PROFESSOR SHE HAD because this girl got an A!!!  He must have a much better way of presenting the material.  She said she was so happy when she looked online that she was jumping up and down on her bed and one of her roommates Anthony ran in to see what was happening!

We are so happy for her because she is DONE with Calculus now!  Yes, she will have some other Math classes for computer science but what a blessing to finally get this behind her!

She went back today because she is staying the rest of the summer to take a Psychology class and a Sociology class to help her GPA before her Junior year starts.

STILL NO RAIN.  Crops around here are really suffering.  Grass is BROWN AND CRUNCHY!

Off tomorrow and Tuesday so going to try to get some housework done and the dreaded DUSTING.

  • LAS VACACIONES

    Hola!

On vacation this week but no money to go any place.  AC unit is out so trying to see if we can fix it ourselves but can't find the new blade we need because the unit is so old.  Larry is going to call a place to see if they have a part that is the equivalent of what we need.  At least it broke AFTER the heat wave of triple digits but it was still uncomfortable yesterday with the house temp 86 and outside 86 at 9 pm.

Going to my Zumba classes in the evening, Tues. Wed. and Thurs.

Wishing Elita was here but with no AC Larry is going to let her know if we have it by Fri., as she may not want to be in the heat after going through the storm thing 2 weeks ago.

It is 71 now at 9 pm.  Going to be about 85 the whole week but no chance of rain.

Charlie hasn't been for a walk in a while during this heat wave.  Should probably take him for one today.

    Be back later.

WED:  YAY! The fan blade came today so now waiting for the motor to come so we can get the AC fixed.  We can live with the heat but much nicer not to have to do

     that.

Saw this video on the news and it is so true!

  • TODAVIA HACE MUCHO CALOR!

    HOLA!

Today is still the saga of the heat wave, with 7000 households in our Dayton area, suburbs included, still without power.  Crews from out of state are helping and working through the night but you still get some people who are downright nasty about it.  These guys are out there in the brutal heat trying to get it done as quickly as possible but some areas have to have trees cut up before they can even start.

    dpl

Picture from internet after a car accident earlier in the year.  Couldn't find a regular picture of a DP&L truck.

Elita got power back in her area of Athens on Sun. afternoon, after it went out with Friday's storm, but other areas of the town are still without power depending on what transmission grid you are on.  They said some may not get power back until this Fri.

I don't know about some of these complainers but when it's that hot and high humidity, I don't work very fast. Today is another day of 95 plus high humidity. Those guys are definitely sweating and risking becoming dehydrated.  They have put out heat warnings for people working outside.

It is 90 right now here in Huber Heights and my clothes were soaked just doing a little garden work and watering and it was only an hour out there so I cannot imagine being out there for 8 or more hours!!

Elita is doing very well in Calculus class she is taking this summer with another A on a pop quiz, so praying she can keep getting good grades including the final, whenever that is, and be done with this class for good!  It was so nice to hear her happy for a change instead of being down on herself about this class.  I have prayed for the professor too, as he must be presenting it a different way for her to be doing so much better!

Time to get some other stuff done and then Zumba at 6:30.  Larry is working supposedly till 11 pm tonight but last night he didn't get home until 2:30 am as they had calls up the wazoo, from the storm messing things up plus your regular ATM calls.  He is off tomorrow and NOT answering his phone.  He already worked extra this weekend to try to help catch up, as he was supposed to off Sat. and Sun.

    Have a good day/night everyone!

  • MUCH NEEDED RAIN!!

    HOLA!

Still some rumbles of thunder but we got some much needed rain!  Temp dropped from 99 before to 69 after the storm, so patio door open to let in the cool air!

Temps supposed to be in 90s till this Thurs.

No damage here from the storms but others were not so lucky.  Downtown festival canceled and an event at the Air Force Base.

  • ZUMBA MAMITA

    Hola,

    Zumba and walking are working!

     IMG_1275

Going to class, Lord willing, Tues., Wed., Thurs., Fri. and Sun.

Now if I can get these arms all one color!

Tomorrow the HHH comes back with the high Wed. of 97!!  It is 63 now so at least the AC gets a brief break.

Got a few errands to run and then take Carlito for a walk.  Going to get things watered today so they don't bake tomorrow.

  • A WALK IN THE PARK

    Hola!

We went to Thomas Cloud Park this morning and walked 1.5 miles.  Of course I had my digital, so NO critters for me to snap! UGH!!

It is now 79 and breezy and feels sooooo good after the 4 day heat wave we had!

Going to Zumba at 5 for a 5:30 class.

Got a little offended by this decision made at a speaking engagement:

I would be offended by this: REALLY???? Yes, all we Hispanics carry switchblades!! They tried to claim it's done at "all events" where he speaks but I have a hard time believing that.

    EXCERPT:
There are plenty of objects that shouldn’t be placed in the same vicinity as the President of the United States. Guns, for instance, or knives (at least, the kind that are at least as sharp as steak knives). But silverware? That’s a new one. Politico reports that the Secret Service has required guests at a lunch where the President was speaking this afternoon to surrender their forks and knives before Obama would enter the room:

“It’s very important that you use your utensils as soon as possible,” National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials board member Raquel Regalado told about 1000 delegates at the group’s annual conference.
Regalado hurried the diners to finish up their salads and pre-cut chicken breasts, saying that the Secret Service required that there be no knives at the tables and that the forks be rounded up before Obama entered the room.
“As you know, we’re having another speaker and there is some Secret Service involved. So there’s a reason why there’s no knives at your table and the forks will be collected. … And I’m not joking,” Regalado told the audience in a ballroom at Disney’s Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World. “So, like the good Hispanic mother I’m here to tell you to please, eat your lunch.”
A Secret Service spokesman confirmed that the agency made the request, but said such requirements are common at large events where the president speaks at about the same time people are dining. Apparently they never heard of sporks.

I doubt he did this at the fundraisers in California.

  • HAIR, HAIR, HAIR DOWN TO THERE!

    HOLA!

Elita got her hair relaxed Thursday.  She found a new place about 30 mins. away in Dayton.  Lily never told us she was leaving so we don't know if she moved to Texas where her son and wife are or somewhere else.  We were really bummed because we had told her if she moved to give us a referral of somebody else who could do Elita's hair.

This place did it at a much higher price but they did a nice job.  Elita will see what it is like once she washes it Monday.   We will be saving so she can get it relaxed again when she is home in Dec.  And, she has a boyfriend now, so both his parents and we encouraged them to take things slowly.

    chrisgrad

First picture his parents, 2nd his brother, last college friends.

Elita said he was making that funny face because the sun was in his eyes!

Chris graduated June 9th from Ohio University so is hoping to find a job soon.  They have known each other for 2 years as friends but became boyfriend and girlfriend a little over 2 months, with June 30th being 3 months.  Well, as usual I will be praying she makes good choices like she has so far.  :)

  • LAVENDER!

    Hola!

Hope everyone is doing well and no major problems. I took pictures of my lavender on my day off and had a hard time getting detail as the blossoms are so small.

Elita is home until June 17 and we take her to move into the apt. that she and 3 others will be sharing. It is cheaper than living in the dorm. She is taking some summer classes and they start Monday.

Larry is on 3 to midnight for 8 days so we will have to get down there quickly, unload things, and drive back so he can go to work. I am going to be calling out of work as it is too hard to get a weekend day off.  It took me forever to get the Sat. off in April for our wedding anniversary and I applied in Feb.!

Here are some pictures of my lavender:

It smells so good when I rub the leaves between my fingers!

  • SHOULD HAVE HAD MY CAMERA!

    Hola!

Larry and I got coffee from McDonald's and I had a hash brown and then took coffee to Thomas Cloud Park.

I had my camera on the kitchen table and forgot it.  Well, of course, on our last 10 mins. of the walk I see a hawk on the top of a soccer goal.  I walked all the way up to it before it flew off into a tree.  That would have been a great video and good pictures as it was not high up in the tree just of the path.

Picture from internet.  Picture is enlarged but it was pretty big that's why it got my attention.

    Red-tailed Hawk

Next time I will take it and I probably won't see anything!

Going to Lowe's to get some mulch to put around the 2 trees out front.

    Sunny and 77.

    Be back later.

  • LLUVIA AND RED TAPE

    Hola,

Got some much needed rain this morning. Now it is sunny out. Going to take Charlie for a walk soon as I get back from Lowe's. Need one more 6-pack of petunias for 2 small pots on the patio.

    THE RED TAPE PART:

FAFSA managed to tell Elita today that they needed an electronic signature as it was not on the form filed in Feb.
    Where does this stuff go?

Larry and I followed every step and it said it was submitted. So, after some MAJOR stress on her and my part, it has been "successfully submitted" AGAIN!!

Hopefully it comes through in time for her summer class and the junior year. Talk about something almost giving you a headache!! And this new form was supposed to be more SIMPLIFIED!! UGH!

    Back in a while.

    WED. MAY 30:

Never did get back on here yesterday.  Today is 64 at 9:23 and feels so good after the heat wave.  We got some much needed rain yesterday.  Charlie needs a walk so going to do that in a few minutes, take a break and then cut the back yard.  Will hang sheets out before we go and put whites in the dryer.  I am doing the laundry since I am off today, as I worked Monday, the holiday.

Zumba with Jorge tonight at 7.

    Garden is doing pretty good:

    My little garden.

    IMG_1007

Hope I get lots of tomatoes this year.

    IMG_1008

    IMG_1009

Gerbera daisy I got on clearance rack at Lowe's for $1!! Have two 6-packs of petunias to put in my small pots later that were only 50 cents each! Will see if my cilantro seeds from last year's plants will grow in the empty container.

    IMG_1010

    IMG_1011

Impatience and jalapeno plant I got for $5.

    IMG_1012

My other tomator plant near the house.  I planted some tomato seeds but it looks like only 1 came up.

Time to get going.  Hope you all are well!!
