TIME FOR AN INVESTIGATION AND SOME DISCLOSURE

HOLA,

In the wake of the tragedy yesterday I did some research of my own and there needs to be an investigation of this base.   The only difference between what this guy did and the 75 other suicides here is that they just killed themselves.  Now who is going to head up this investigation?  Homeland Security?  The State Dept.?  An independent military panel?? Somebody needs to get on this soon! You can get crime statistics for just about any college in the US.  What about suicide stats for military bases and what is being done to reduce them???

Excerpt from link below:

It's unclear what motivated the Army psychiatrist who is thought to have opened fire on fellow soldiers Thursday, although it's clear he had worked in settings where the effects of combat stress were pervasive.

A small but increasing number of soldiers undergoing the mental strain of repeated combat deployments are taking lives -- often their own.

This year, 117 active-duty Army soldiers were reported to have committed suicide, with 81 of those cases confirmed -- up from 103 suicides during the same period last year. Ten suicides have been reported at Fort Hood this year; more than 75 of its personnel have committed suicide since 2003. Fort Hood's high number of suicides is also linked to the fact that it is the Army's largest base, with more than 53,000 soldiers.

An estimated 30 percent of those returning from combat suffer mental health symptoms such as depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress. Such problems grow worse with repeated deployments and the constant exposure to danger and the sights, smells and emotions of seeing others killed or wounded, according to Army mental health surveys

A SAD TRAGEDY . . .

HOLA!

Please pray for those at Fort Hood, Texas!

Image: Twelve Dead In Mass Shooting At Fort Hood

I heard bits and pieces after finishing work.  What was going on this guy's mind, who is supposed to be HELPING with the mental health of soldiers????

An Army psychiatrist opened fire Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas, killing at least 11 people and wounding 31 others before being shot to death, officials told NBC News.

NBC News’ Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. A defense official told NBC News that Hasan arrived at Fort Hood in July for his first assignment after completing his psychiatry residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, followed by a course in disaster and preventive psychiatry.

Hasan, who was 39 or 40, was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq on Nov. 28, officials said. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, said military officials had told her that Hasan was “pretty upset” about his deployment orders.

I cannot imagine the grief those families are going through.  What a senseless act.

EDIT:  Now they say this guy was not killed after being shot 4 times but is alive, under military guard.

"V", REVISITED . . . VERY INTERESTING!

HOLA!

Don't remember this original mini-series but Elita and I watched this one and it was very interesting even if it did creep us out!  Hubby reiterated a phrase I heard in it but I had not made much of it until he brought it up.  Now my interest is definitely piqued!

Left Lashes Out at ‘V’, Obama-Friendly ABC Purges Showrunner…

by James Hudnall

Last night a brave and insightful documentary was aired that accurately portrayed the wave of ObamaMania that swept the nation. It was called “V” and aired on ABC to mostly rave reviews and tremendous ratings.

There was another documentary about the Obama campaign on HBO, but that left out a lot of relevant facts, so spaceships and lizard-people aside, ABC wins the veracity award.

v_the_series-29

The parable is, an attractive group of aliens show up, out of the blue, and offer universal health care, advanced technology and world peace in exchange for our trust and devotion. All we have to do is believe everything they say without question. Which means, don’t ask anything about their hidden motives or past associations because that would be racist impolite. In fact, one reporter who is offered an exclusive interview with their leader is admonished not to say anything negative or they would be denied access (Hi, Fox!).

And what do you know, the aliens are really here to eat us. And maybe even take over our car companies and banks. That part is unclear. But I’m sure they will reduce unemployment, because there will be less people looking for work. Oops, I guess “V” has nothing to do with Obama, because he sure isn’t doing well on that front. But anyhoo–

The New Republic’s Jonathan Chait was outraged by the pilot. Outraged, I say!

This is not just a right-wing worldview but the worldview of the paranoid Tea Party movement. I’m really not sure how this made it onto network television. Maybe the calculation is that Glenn Beck will start urging his viewers to watch and a ratings bonanza will ensue. (I don’t expect scientists will be the scapegoats in the new series, as the original “V” alien campaign to tar scientists as a fifth column sits uncomfortably close to the current right-wing view that the world’s leading scientific organizations are conspiring to suppress evidence that global warming is a hoax.)

Ah, it’s Glenn Beck’s fault. He’s the new W, don’t you know. The New York Times critic said “V” was unrealistic because no one would trust attractive strangers with a hidden past and motives, who told them what they wanted to hear in such a short amount of time. Yeah, right. Like that would happen.

Naturally, when a show debuts to huge ratings and mostly great reviews, the producer’s career is golden. Not this time. Apparently the network who gave Obama an infomercial and refuses to release the “Path to 9/11″ DVD decided to replace the show runner Scott Peters before the pilot even aired. In fact, ABC hosted a big visit by press people last Monday, but Peters was notably absent. Exec producer Steve Pearlman spoke with the reporters.

Peters has been demoted to exec producer, a largely honorary title and has been replaced by former “The Shield” and “Chuck” alum Scott Rosenbaum.

Was this a case of ABC purging a political dissident from the show to make it more politically subservient? ABC has been very pro-Obama. And while the president’s name is never mentioned once in the show, there’s little doubt what they’re getting at. Critics of the “V” aliens are shown to be viewed as wackos and fringe people, the same way the MSM likes to portray ordinary Americans who don’t drink the kOOl-aid. Journalists who question the motives of the V are treated like they’re “not real news”. Wink!

The show has been very entertaining so far. It tries to get a lot in the first episode so things move very fast. I guess that’s why the NY Times guy found it so unbelievable. After all, lefties were questioning if Obama was black enough in 2007 before they became full on acOlytes a year later.

We’ll have to see if Rosenbaum’s episodes will feature positive portrayals of the “V’s” “death panels” and their reduction of the human population as lowering our carbon footprint and “saving the planet.”

One thing’s certain, I doubt the “V” would find too many people in this administration very appetizing.

I would have to agree with that statement!

DO INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW???

HOLA!

From the Huffington Post:

Want to know if a celebrity is playing both sides of the fence? Whether that new guy you're seeing is actually a Republican or just dresses like one?

FundRace makes it easy to search by name or address to see which presidential candidates your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors are contributing to. Or you can see if your favorite celebrity is putting their money where their mouth is.

I don't think places of work should be listed but you can find that out and the person's address.   Heard about it on the radio and decided to check it out.  Wonder what it will look like when the next BIG election comes up 3 years from now???

http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com/

Voting later today.  Don't know what kind of turnout we will have but if people choose to remain apathetic then they can't complain about the results.

Hasta luego!

WAKE UP AMERICA, IT'S A MEDICAL THING.

Hola!

I wish I could find this on the Net but they must have it blocked.  The woman in the video found her cancer this way so she chose to do the video in real time to help other women.  I cannot imagine anyone being offended by this unless they are very uncomfortable with their own bodies.  It is a medical video for goodness sake!

They showed this on GMA but blocked out the areolae.

http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8956016

I have seen programs on TV that showed every step of an actual childbirth and someone is offended by seeing a breast in a self-exam video?  Something is wrong with this picture.

ARTICLE:

Washington-area TV station broadcasts demonstrations of bare breast self-exams

WASHINGTON (AP) — The ABC affiliate here is airing a two-part series that takes a close — and unobscured — look at breast self-exams. The series is airing during the fall "sweeps" period critical for a TV station's ad revenue, prompting concern by a parental watchdog group. But WJLA insists it's not just a naked attempt to boost the ratings.

The two segments include clinical demonstrations of self-exams, and the breasts of the two volunteers are not blurred. They were to air during the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts Thursday and Friday.

WJLA officials said the segments are providing an important service because many women don't know how to properly check their breasts.

"In talking to women, we found out there really weren't a lot of women who knew how to do self breast exams," station manager Bill Lord said.

The station's adult viewers are 58 percent female, spokeswoman Abby Fenton said.

The Parents Television Council reacted cautiously to news of the series but suggested it saw the potential for problems.

"We hope that WJLA-TV is not using a crucial public health issue as a ratings stunt, and that the station has fully considered what is appropriate to tell this important story to the public in the most suitable manner possible," the group said in a statement. That might mean different versions of the story at 5 p.m. and at 11 p.m., it added.

The segments will be breaking a broadcast television taboo against exposed breasts. The Federal Communications Commission fined CBS Corp. for the "wardrobe malfunction" that bared Janet Jackson's breast during the 2004 Super Bowl. But Lord said he did not believe a clinical demonstration in a medical story on a news show would run into any trouble with decency standards.

One of the two women featured in the WJLA segments has breast cancer and caught it by doing a self-exam.

The reports also include interviews with Elizabeth Edwards and Tanya Snyder, the wife of Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder. Both have been public about their struggles with breast cancer.

Not all breast cancer awareness advocates agree that self-exams are an effective tool. The WJLA segments don't report on that controversy, instead focusing on how to do the exams correctly.

Lord said the issue is personal for him. His mother-in-law died of breast cancer, and his mother had the disease too.

"I have a wife and three daughters," he said. "I want them to see this."
